My dream of seeing the French Open, or at least reviling in the excitement of Roland Garros was crushed yesterday. So, we woke up relatively early to head out to the grounds by 10h, because I had thought that the match would be starting at 11h. But we couldn't even get into the grounds without a ticket, which had to be bought online and was sold out. So we tried to find a cafe with a TV showing the match, but none were open that early. We decided to hunt down one in the Latin Quarter, where there were a lot of sports bars. However, most of them were closed at that early in the morning. Eventually we did find one at a little past 11h, but their TV was showing a French soap opera. I asked someone working there if we could watch tennis, and they all looked at us like we were crazy. They then got out a newspaper and pointed to the fact that the match wouldn't be starting until 15h. We all felt really stupid and silly for having wasted half the day. So Lauren and I went home for a nap, then headed out to a local bar to watch the final. The bar was pretty tame when the match started but slowly the noise built so that by the last set it was very rowdy, and a lot of fun. We had dinner at the cafe then headed home for an early night. Today, we all got to the Accent center, where we were supposed to meet to discuss the coming week, as well as see the first student presentation. However, when we arrived we were early so checked our emails to see that class was canceled because our professor's bags were lost at the airport. So we went back home, napped a little. Then Sam and I headed out for some cheap and tasty Indian food. It was so good, a lot of food, and only 15 euros! Then we all met up at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts. It was really cool to see the school where almost all of the famous French painters were trained. It's still a prestigious school of art, so we briefly saw some of the students' artwork. This evening Sam and I went to a bar for an open mic poetry reading. It was very crowed, and very international. Everyone seemed to speak English and all of the poetry was in English, which was a pleasant surprise. Lots of interesting people, and I wish I could have stayed longer but it was across town and the metro stops running at 1h.
